Neil was appointed joint caretaker-manager at the begining of December following the
resignation of Phil Robinson. Named as the 2005/06 Stafford Rangers Supporters
Player of the Season, Neil has made over 150 appearances for the club. Signed from Forest
Green Rovers in March 2004, Neil marked his debut against Moor Green with a goal inside
two minutes and netted his 50th goal for the club during the win at Exeter City in
October. He began his career with York based non-league side Rowntree Mackintosh from
where he snapped up by Doncaster Rovers, for whom he made his Football League debut. He
dipped in and out of the League with spells at York City, Chesterfield, Gateshead, Boston
United, Northampton Town, Hereford United, Cheltenham Town and Forest Green Rovers. During
his time at Cheltenham, Neil won two promotions, was named Conference Player of the Year
for the 1998/99 season, became an England Semi-Pro International and scored The
Robins first Football League goal. A popular player with the fans, Neil was named as
the all-time cult-hero at not one but two League clubs as fans of Northampton and
Cheltenham named him their most popular player ever. Neil scored during the play-off final
against Droylsden in May 2006 and also found the net in the shoot-out.
